August 7th, Purple Heart Day.
Robert Wayne Lents served in the Navy 1941-1945 on the USS Perch (176). He is one of five survivors of that ship and was a Japanese prisoner for 44 months. You can read more about Bob's ordeal on the Twin Lakes Base site (Mountain Home, AR) http://orgsites.com/ar/twin-lake-base/_p991.php3 and http://www.Valorawards/projectsmilitarytimes.com Bob, is from Bridgewater, Iowa and resides in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
It appears each issue we receive of the POLARIS (U.S. Submarine Veterans World War II) or the AMERICAN SUBMARINER (United States Submarine Veterans) magazines we read where a friend has went on Eternal Patrol; this time it was Robert Keith Wight of Springdale, Arkansas and a member of the USS Shook Base. He qualified on the USS BECUNA IN 1945.
