James William Mason Etenal Patrol

USSVI Bremerton Base – Eternal Patrol Notice
This message has been Bcc'd to Bremerton Base e-mail listing.
Greetings,
It is with a heavy heart that I send this message. Recently, I received an e-mail from the National Office that informed me of the passing of James William Mason, on Sunday, May 13th, 2018. James qualified in submarines on the USS Bugara (SS- 331) in 1949. He also served on SS-307,SS-321, SS-524, SS-334, SS-394, and SS-402 . James was a STC(SS) when he left the Navy. He joined USSVI in 1999 and was a member of the Bremerton Base, Razorback Base, and the Holland Club. With James departing on Eternal Patrol, let it be known we have lost another hero. Sailor, rest your oar!
Stephen J. Corcoran
Base Commander
I was sadden today to receive this news of James William Mason. The photo below I took of James and his friend, Evelyn Ryan who endorsed my first book,"Submarine Stories of World War II." Their endorsements are on the first page. This was taken in 2007 at the USS Sea Fox reunion in Branson. God bless his family and friends. I was so happy to meet them for the first time. National Poppy Day May 25, 2018

This Friday, May 25, is National Poppy Day!
Volunteers from Alley-White American Legion Auxiliary Unit 52 in Mountain Home will be giving out poppies that day at Orscheln Farm & Home and Town & Country grocery store from 9 am until 3 pm. Please accept a poppy from one of us and make a donation in exchange, to allow us to continue taking care of our local Veterans in nursing homes.
We hope you will wear your poppy with pride, and a solemn recognition of the sacrifices our Veterans made to make this day possible.

Thanks for your support!

MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCE – GREEN VALLEY (CEMETERY) , AZ
Hi All:
I will be the M.C. and Speaker at this year's observance, put on by our local Marine Corps League.
Commencing 9 A.M., Monday, May 28, 2018. We expect to finish by 11 A.M. Green Valley Cemetery.
In my remarks I will be memorializing those Submariners long gone and some others (also long gone) who influenced my life.
We will be Parading the Colors, laying wreaths and remembering those in Green Valley who have departed us this year.
Broadcast live on KGVY AM 1080 (Green Valley's Radio Station). We remain on Standard Time so we are the same here as Pacific Coast Time.
Those who can make it, please come. Let us have a Standing Room Only size crowd.
If there is an MP-3 or an MP-4 produced, I will do my best to get it out to you.
See you there and then.                    Joel Greenberg USS Sea Fox

4Vets4Life

Hi

I’m reaching out for your help. We’re searching for 10 disabled American military veterans for our first 4Vets4Life program and we’re hoping that you and the readers of Submarine Stories and Military Writers might be able to help find them. Each of the 10 veterans who are chosen for the program will be awarded $100,000 towards making their future a reality and one will be provided with a new home specially modified to meet their needs. While they need to apply themselves, I would love your help finding and nominating these heroes by letting them know that this program exists. All of the info is here, including the application for the veterans:

4Vets4Life is dedicated to providing vital assistance and support to American wounded veterans in order to help them overcome their injuries and re-establish themselves as successful productive members of society. If you are able to share on your site and social networks, that would be incredibly helpful in spreading the word about our new program. Also, please send me the link as I'd love to share it with my team. I’m here if you have any questions.

Thanks so much,

Nina

Honoring WWII Submarine Veterans

Hi ALL:

It is time again for our monthly celebration of our WW II Submarine Heroes.

Jerry Bob's, Green Valley 9 A.M.  Bring your friends, relatives, neighbors and other Navy and Service Branch Vets.

Most come early, after all this is Green Valley.  I get there by 8 A.M. Most are there by 8:30 A.M.

This is the day, time, and place that our WW II SubVets Cactus Chapter met until the WW II organization was disestablished.  So we meet and break bread to honor and remember them.

(Also this month we will lay a SubVets wreath and two WW II SubVets wreaths at our local memorial Day remembrance.  Come to this too.)

See you there and then.

Joel
