William Gordon Longworth, 89, of Wilkinson, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at his residence. Born December 28, 1923 in Vancouver, Canada and raised in Lamar, Colorado. He was the son of the late William Franklin and Mabel Cora (Davidson) Longworth.
He retired as a chief petty officer for the United States Navy serving from 1942 to 1962. A submarine veteran, he was a Holland Club Member recognizing 50 years of submarine service. He retired from Crown Zellerbach in 1985. He was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for 20 years at the 1st Baptist Church of Lillian, Alabama. A member of Shirley Wilkinson United Methodist Church in Shirley and a 32nd degree Mason. He is survived by two daughters, Peggy (Buzz) Etheredge of Marietta, GA, Brenda Daurante of FL; two sons, William Alan (Angela) Longworth of Mobile, AL, Terry (Stephanie) Longworth of Wilkinson; a brother, David Longworth of Vancouver, Canada; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Doris (Winona) Longworth; three sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 at Serenity Gardens Funeral Home in Theodore, Alabama. Friends will be received Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Serenity Gardens. Local arrangements entrusted to Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson, Indiana.
