Received the below message this afternoon

Dear Ralph, wanted you and all the Sennett's crew members to know that my dad, L.D. Williams Electricians Mate SS USS Sennett SS 408 from 1951 - 1953, has passed on Thursday February 25, 2016. He was surrounded by family members but most of all Loved his fellow Sennett Submariners. L. D. was grateful for the cards and notes he received from fellow crew members over the last few years. Thank you and God Bless all of you. Respectfully, Lester D. Williams and family.

L.D. had been listed on our Binnacle List recently.
He served aboard Sennet as an EM2 during the years ‘51-‘53

My dad was a Public Information officer on Admiral Nimitz's staff when the Iwo Jima photograph came in. Everyone recognized it as an important photo as soon as they saw it. Just about everyone in the office wanted a copy. I have the one my dad got, made from the original negative.

Received the below message on L.D Williams. L.D. served aboard Sennet during the years ‘51-‘53 as an EM.

Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Dear Ralph, I wanted to update you on the outcome for my father, L.D. Williams, dad did not come out of his surgeries well and as of this date is being transferred to hospice care. He is not responding and our family has been informed that dad will pass. I do not know when that will happen but will keep you informed. I thank you and all of dad's fellow submariners for their thoughts and prayers. Respectfully, Lester Williams.

Update on Willie Jones, he is home after his stay at the Rehab place. Willie was a SD on Sennet during the years ‘44-‘46.

Please keep him and his wife Estelle in you prayers also.

Muskogee War Memorial Park - Home of the USS Batfish

We are extremely saddened to hear of the passing of one of our World War II vets this last weekend. Edwin Cramer passed on February 13, 2016 at the Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Edwin was on board the USS Batfish for the 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 war patrols. Shown below, Edwin is featured in the famous shot of the crew to commemorate the sinking of three submarines in 76 hours.

This leaves only two World War II veterans left from the USS Batfish crew. Please take the time to document and listen to any World War II veteran that you may know.

The visitation is tomorrow at 12:00 pm and the funeral is at 2:00 pm.

Submarine Veterans Promote Yourselves

I would love to hear if  you  purchased my book, and did you enjoy it or not. Please help promote our/submarine veterans. We need to get this out to student in schools and libraries. Thanks a million. Sure, I have a personal interest, because my husband has two stories in it. I remember, at one of the National Conference visiting with different submarine veterans about getting their stories out - we must not allow people to forget. More than once, a veteran would remark, "No one cares."  My remark was, "How can people care, if they don't know the sacrifices you all have made."

Most of the articles on this subject are published in military magazines where most of the public never pick up or read.

My husband has a long career in the Navy. I have been a big supporter of submarine veterans for over 30 years. I thank you all, for the support you have provide for,  Heroes Beneath the Waves. Submarine Stories of the Twentieth Century.
