The crew filmed for 2 weeks straight at night after the Park had closed to visitors. U-505, U-2513 and U-3008 became the property of United States of America during World War II. Soon after the war Melvin Tolbert Smith, STC (SS) USN-RET was assigned TAD to check out the Sound Gear on all three. He rode each one for two days on Chesapeake Bay. They would go out in the morning and return in the afternoon. Melvin was station at the time at New London Navy Base. His son-in-law Lee surprise him while visiting the family in Naperville by taking on a trip to visit the Museum of Science and Industry. Melvin didn't know the U-505 was there. To his delight he was able to share with family the role he played in history.
