Rean. The numbers tell a story. They do not lie. According to the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, approximately 900 World War II veterans die every day. But that number is not the whole story. We cannot simply consider statistical losses when we look at that number. What we are really losing is a unique brand of warriors who let nothing stand in the way of the march toward victory, and no group of World War II veterans typified that never-say-die attitude better than that of America’s submarine service. NEWS-04: Submarine Memorial to be dedicated in Fayetteville AK Submitted by: Pete Rathmell on 6/29/2010 --------------------------------------------------------- The USS Snook Base of the United States Submarine Veterans will be unveiling a memorial monument dedicated to those submariners lost in service to our country. The unveiling will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, 10:00am at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fayetteville. Guests include officers from the United States Submarine Veterans, officials from the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and retired and active duty U.S. Navy Submariners. The public and other veterans organizations are invited to attend. This will be the first submarine memorial in northwest Arkansas and the third in the state. Tim was diagnosed with Lung Cancer several weeks ago, and went under the knife today, Wednesday June 16. His wife, Lynda reported "Tim was in surgery for over 3 hours. We just spoke to his doctor and Tim came through the surgery just fine. Unfortunately it was cancer and he could not save any of the lung....he had to take the whole right lung out. Our doc had 2 other surgeons come in to see if there was anyway to save the upper lobe, but they all agreed it could not be saved. It appears to be squamous cell cancer.Tim will be moved to ICU shortly and I will be able to go see him.
